A contrary point of view would seem appropriate here James. We purchased our last three computers from Dell in Mexico and were amazed that, while here visiting in Santa Fe, New Mexico, we were refused service without committing to a $130USD fee. There will be no more Dell purchases originating from our home.

Sorry to hear that! But the question is whether the computer is still under warranty, and whether you have an international warranty. We currently have three Dells, though one is brand new from the USA. Of our other two, one is under warranty and the other isn't. Recently in Mexico, we called for service on the one not currently under warranty. They informed us there would be a charge of somewhere around $110 US dollars for in-home service. So, we called our regular computer guy who solved the problem for 300 pesos.

On four or five occasions, Dell has come through for us but always on warranty. I always buy the longest full service warranty they offer. Under those circumstances, they've never failed me (and never charged me).
