Carnaval at Tzurumutaro Empty
PostSubject: Carnaval at Tzurumutaro   Carnaval at Tzurumutaro EmptyTue 08 Mar 2011, 19:19

It's a little late to be mentioning this, but the celebration of Carnaval at Tzurumutaro is today, and especially tonight. Our combi van today passed the carnival rides and tents on the Plaza of this outlying burb of Pátzcuaro.

An amiga on the same combi told me that wile Carnaval is heartily celebrated at Tzuru, Patzcuarenses do little to mark the coming of Cuaresma (Lent), starting tomorrow.
The Tzurumutenses are noted locally as a partying bunch. Their Christmas celebration is unique, with men dressed as devils, carrying long chains with sharp hooks on the end. What are those OUCH! for? We try to stay clear of the festivities, being fond of a good nights rest.

So what you are telling us is that as a "local", you can be bored with the whole process and that sleep is more important?

Maybe it is just me but I have this curiosity streak that drives me to learn and experience all that I can. I think but don't really know for certain since I don't live there, that I would grab every opportunity that I could but we are each very different. I do know that we have been very disappointed by missing the Copper Festival in Santa Clara del Cobre and the Festival in Paracho because of other time commitments. As we go through the learning process of all that Michoacan has to offer, we will be attempting to schedule our visits around all of these events that make Michoacan such an attraction for us!

That's understandable. Michoacán is a very colorful place with much tradition and history. There are activities virtually everyday. I have been scolded by visitors because of not taking in every moment of the color and festivities. I'll tell you another thing, Michoacán is a very good place to live, IMHO. There is always so much to do that if I miss attending a fiesta I believe I will survive.

I have seen and done plenty here but I doubt I will ever do it all. Us "locals" are expected by the visitors to know all about everythig that goes on here. Some of the visitors feel the Tourism departments are not much help with all the information, but they, like us, just don't know it all either. My opinion is that would be impossible, it would be more than a full-time job to try to do it all. Such a feat would require a crack team of professional party-goers. There is a tourism department for the State of Michoacán, for the municipio of Morelia, and for nearly countless other local agencies. No one I know who has been here all their lives has much of a handle on it either. I tend to think it would be impossible even for a life-long resident to do so.

I never came here as a tourist but I have experienced much of the merriment. To avoid it all would be as impossible as doing it all. There are things I want to do but have not yet done so. By all means though, come and join the fun. Try to take in as much as you can in the time you have. I would like to ask one thing tough, please write to this board and tell us all about it. I would hope that the people coming to this site collectively will be that crack team that is so desperately needed.

Neil, we felt the same as you re: fiestas when we would come here on vacations, and also in the first few years of living here. We wouldn't want to miss a thing.
Successive and lengthy celebrations are tiring.

I'm having dificulty in composing a cogent reply just now, (Note post time 3:37 AM) so I refer you to this blog post of a couple of years past that may explain how we came to our present outlook on fiestas.
