Subject: JAPANESE BRAIN TEST

This test will tell you if your brain is as old as your body. The website is at the bottom. Once you get there follow these instructions:

1. Touch 'start'
2. Wait for 3, 2, 1, seconds.
3. Memorize the number's position on the screen, then click the circle from the SMALLEST NUMBER TO THE BIGGEST NUMBER.
4. At the end of game, the computer will tell you how old your brain is.

I see 6 views with nobody commenting about their scores. My scores with three attempts: 57, 33, & 36. I will turn 64 at the end of this month. That must mean that I am immature for my age?

I did it the first time and got a 54 then waited about an hour and got a 31. I turned 58 less than a month ago. Should it come out like your age? Not far off the first time. Gets easier when you know what to expect.

Peter:

With all your experience, you should have been able to read the Japanese instructions!

My Japanese girlfriend from years ago taught me some Japanese phrases but not how to read con-ji. When the Japanese defense force came to our test base the first time they had a small team attached to us. I used 85% of the Japanese I knew greeting them and offering a cigarette and asking for a light. The exchange went on for over a minute or so and my co-workers were blown-away/ They thought I was fluent in Japanese. No chance.

Shigarete wa ikaga desu ka? (Arrigato) Do itashi mashite.

Matchi wo kudesai? Asoka. Arrigato.

No claim for being able to spell it though.

From 1949 to 1956, I was raised in Japan - ages 2 to 9. Without any formal classes, I learned to speak, read and write Japanese. My father was an executive with an oil company and I would often travel with him acting as his interpreter since he knew that I would translate without slanting the translation to what a regular Japanese interpreter thought he wanted to hear. At the time I thought it was pretty cool duty even though I often had no idea what the technical stuff was all about. Like anything, you either use it or lose it but I still pick up on the spoken word with brief exposure.

Even though it was during a period where there were numerous US troops still occupying Japan, we didn't have that much contact with them other than my going to a US system school on one of the military bases. At the time, it was a great experience living there and the Japanese were truly a friendly people. My best buddy and I would think nothing of hopping on the train in Yokohama and go to Tokyo for the day by ourselves. Not a bad experience for two very young guys!

Never been there. They say Japan is one of the safest countries to be in. Also one of the most expensive.

Until I met Tere my Japanese girlfriend Susan was the sweetest I have ever known. I must express gratitude to the gringa gals I dated for helping me keep my resolve to remain single.
