PostBalnearios de Aguas Termales

A good soak in a naturally heated pool is always alluring. The area around Los Azufres is well known. But what about the balnearios of the north shore of Lago Cuitzeo, as at or near Huandacareo? Are they true hot springs, and how much is dedicated to kiddie water parks, with slides and kids on every side? (Something we prefer to avoid.)

Late last year, a poster on the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree, Mexico Branch, told me about her pleasant experiences swimming at a balneario at Araró. We wanted to check it out, but regional security conditions were "heating up", and as the weather grew colder, and we put this trip aside. I believe the principle balneario is called "Los Hervideros". http://www.balnearioloshervideros.com/

Anyone here with personal knowledge of that place or others in the Zinapecuaro-Araró area?

I am hoping to get more information on that today. FWB is having a get-together at a member's home at the Atzimba site in Zinepecuaro this afternoon. I have not been there before nor have used any of the balneario facilities at any of the local sites myself but expect I will get a look at things while there today and hopefully have something to report back.

This member and his wife have season passes for the Atzimba park, and even some guest passes so are good persons to know well. He has spoken of using these facilities and others extensively so I will interview him about this knowledge today if he has time and at least get some specifics about what is available there.

I have another friend that grew up in this area and has invited me to visit the balnearios in Huandacareo near Cuitzeo, another well-known water park. He will be riding wih us to Atzimba so I expect I will get some comparison data as well and have more to add to this thread tonght.

It seems there are a number of balnearios close to here but so far they have been outside of my personal experiences. It is a disservice to myself for not taking advantage of them sooner. Thanks for starting this thread today, it is very timely. I will have more to post on this very soon.

BTW, I cliked on the little plus-sign at the right of your post to give you a brownie-point for bring up this topic. You are becoming very "Distinguido" for your contributions here. Thanks.

De nada. I's nice to have a fresh slate to write on.

Saludos,
