Book drop location Empty
PostSubject: Book drop location   Book drop location EmptyTue 22 Feb 2011, 20:16

I tend to read through 15 to 22 books each time we are at our place out on the coast in Mexico( 2-3 months) and have a devil of a time finding a place on the coast to give these books away. We are in Morelia usually at the end of our stay and wondered if anyone could tell me where I could drop off my books. The books are usually nonfiction, mysteries, general fiction novels and no romances.

Does anyone know where I can drop these English language books off in Morelia? Thanks.

I don't know where you can drop off English langage books in Morelia, but in Pátzcuaro, the Biblioteca Gertrudis Bocanegra on the Plaza Chica has an English section (recently returned after several months away) and I know that they's be glad to have them.

PostSubject: Time for a Book Place in Morelia?   Book drop location EmptyFri 04 Mar 2011, 09:58

Does anyone think it might be time to look into having a "book place" here in Morelia? While I dearly love Patzcuaro, and especially the drive to and from, I think a place of "our own" might deserve some consideration. Yes? No? I'd be willing to get together with some folks to talk about it, and offer time to be a part of it. Phil study

That's the kind of attitude I like.

We had one member that kept books and a kind of lending library for FWB members. I just haven't seen her for a year or so. I wish someone would take the lead on such a thing. I really haven't read a book in English for a long time now.

Here is someone that has some books. Having an interested part here is another big step. I'm not sure how to make a inal leap though. Ideas?

I'll put it on the agenda.

See what you made me do? We don't normally have "agendas" we just shoot the breeze and try not to discuss business.

Sure, I would like to see something done to start a library of sorts. Give it some thought and keep in mind that you may be heading up any such project - what a great welcome into the Club! - and you would probably have others willing to give you a hand with whatever you come up with. I would like to see such a thing become a reality. The person doing such before has not been active in some time. If anyone that knows her better than I do has made contact perhaps she might pool her resources if she no longer has much interest.

We haven't made contact yet but I believe the OP, Beachdreamer, is coming to Morelia soon and may have a good start for us if those books are still available. I hope she keeps up with this thread. She should receive an e-mail msg that the discussion is active. Beachdreamer, we are interested!!

I'll look into some of this as well. We'll talk about this next week at Campestre. Thanks.

PostSubject: Book Library/Exchange   Book drop location EmptyFri 25 Mar 2011, 20:41

Hola AMIGOs

This is our first attempt at a post both at this forum and to echo our offer to Miles and Bekky to help with the library.

We arrive Pátzcuaro in April and will bring with us only a few of the books we have at the house in DF.

We look forward to contributing to the community and learning about Michoacan.

A question this wannabe ROMEO has is how to find out where and when are the meetings?

One last question is the whereabouts of Carlos Fernandez Anaya, who was the dueño of the "PuntaCom" shop across from the Basilica about 5 years ago... a fine fellow and nice family... if anyone knows Carlos' whereabouts, please let me know...

Thank you and Saludos desde México... nos vemos

Dave and Rosy, bienvenidos AMIGOs. I hope you will find this new fledgling board informative and entertaining and we would welcome any comments or question you may have for us. Thank you for signing up with us and having a look-see at what we have so far.

I believe you will receive word here about ROMEO by morning and I might ask if they will post the ROMEO locations to the events forum of this board also, we'll give them their own thread so it can be updated each week. I promise to put that information on our board calendar if they do.

Dave,
I will ask Doug Butler, the present R.O.M.E.O. mailing list guy, to put you on the announcements list.
Meanwhile, the next one is at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Lupita's Restaurant (used to be Cha Cha Cha), at Calle Buena Vista #7, Centro, Pátzcuaro.

By the way. "meeting" is a very loose description of what is primarily a social group.

How can we get that posted here? Would they mind if I cross-posted their announcement?

Taking us back on-topic; in the works, Morelia Amigos will be starting to get their library back in operation and setting up in the northwest part of town by the pereférico where there is easy access by several difffereent buses and combis along with ample parking and little traffic.

It appears we will have a biblioteca (library), meeting room, classroom, and cocina for bebidas and comidas along with wireless internet. This will be a trial-balloon for a self-sustaining clubhouse for Amigos by providing food and drink concessions so that dues or membership fees will not be required for maintenance of facilities.

We are just finding the resources for this endeavor and will probably be another 30 days or more in the making until it would be fully usable. We are hoping this will be a resource for several projects that include Spanish classes at no charge, and a meeting place for a writers group and other arts and interests.
